Earls youngsters shine

EARLS Gymnastics Club is celebrating after two of its junior members were chosen for the national squad Youngsters Harry Caulwell and Dominick Cunningham have been selected for the Elite Great British National Squad for 2009/2010.

Lutley primary school pupil Harry, aged 10, has been selected for the second consecutive year. Dominick has shown that hard work pays off by his re-selection after narrowly missing out on the last two years.

Head coach Michelle Bradley revealed both youngsters train for more than 25 hours a week.

She said: “They have shown that hard work, discipline and dedication is what is required to gain national recognition.

“The lads have great role models to look up to in the gym, Ryan Bradley, a retired long standing Great British International shares in the development of all the boys and is personal coach to Dom.

“Meanwhile current international Kristian Thomas trains along side and provides inspiration for them.”

Despite the club’s tradition of producing elite young athletes, it has regularly fought a battle for survival and MIchelle revealed running costs had spiralled by £10,000 in the last 12 months.

Michelle added: “On a more positive note, after a re-structuring of the club and coaches, we are pleased to announce an increase in the number of young children we are able to coach and are currently going through a period of recruitment.”

Anyone wishing to experience any level of gymnastics in a safe friendly environment should contact the club on 01384 818350.
