DUDLEY middleweight Darren McDermott is set to make his return to the ring against Bristol fighter Danny Butler.
Macca has been ordered to make his first defence of his English middleweight crown against 21-year-old Butler, with the Boxing Board of Control advising the fight takes place by the end of November.
It will be be 30-year-old’s first fight since his attempt at the Commonwealth title ended in disappointment with a hotly-disputed fourth round stoppage against Darren Barker in May.
Butler, who is Western Area champion, has a record of 17 wins from 18 professional fights.
McDermott, nicknamed the Black Country Bodysnatcher, hopes a victory over the Butler would put him back in line for another shot at the British title.
His previous attempt at the Lonsdale belt also ended in controversial circumstances in June last year, when the fight stopped in the second round after McDermott suffered a deep cut above the eye, following a clash of heads with then champion Wayne Elcock.
Macca said: “I’m back in training and raring to go, it’s still disappointing to think about the Barker fight but I’m not disheartened and it means I’ve got a score to settle.
“The fight is currently out for purse bids so we will see who picks it up, nothing has been confirmed for sure but I believe we could be looking at a September date.
“From what I’ve seen of Butler he will provide a test and I certainly won’t be underestimating him.”
