DUDLEY Town got their West Midland Premier League season off to the perfect start with a 2-1 win at last season's champions AFC Wulfrunians.

The Robins went ahead as early as the second minute, Danny Ashton sending Wulf's keeper Dan Tipton the wrong way from the penalty spot after Chris Busby had been felled in the box.

Wulfrunians, who missed out on promotion to the Midland Alliance after falling foul of ground regulations, drew level on the hour when Ade Bandele smashed home from 30 yards out.

But Ashton claimed all three points for Dudley when he poked home from close range after the home side had failed to clear a free-kick.

Dudley Sports got their campaign underway with a 3-0 defeat at home to Oldbury Athletic.

Michael Woolman grabbed a brace for the visitors.

There was also disappointment for Lye Town as they were hammered 4-1 at Ellesmere Rangers.

Town trailed 3-0 at the break thanks to a brace from Danny Barton and an Eddie Hope penalty.

Ash Greenaway pulled one back at the start of the second period, before Barton completed his hat-trick.

Two goals from Anthony Cox helped Tividale get off to a winning start as they recorded a 3-0 victory over Bromyard, Liam Morris also finding the net.

Elsewhere new Gornal Athletic manager Dave Porter saw his side suffer a 5-0 home defeat to Ludlow Town.
