DUDLEY super-featherweight Chris Male has vowed not to get carried away after earning his first title shot.

The punching postman is now the number one contender for the vacant Midlands Area belt after a comfortable points win over Sid Razak at the Venue on Friday.

Male, who is undefeated in seven professional bouts, will fight for the Midlands title in the new year but is anxious to gain more experience before that date.

He said: “Once you have the Midland title it opens up doors, from there you have the English title and the British belt.

“There is no going back and I want to make sure I get as much experience as possible before then.

“I am anxious to have at least one more eight rounder before the end of the year, too many fighters go into these title fights without enough experience and I don’t want that to be me.

“There is no rush, I’m going to take my time.”

On Friday Male comfortably outpointed the vastly more experienced Razak in his first eight round bout.

Birmingham-based Razak failed to win a round as the Dudley fighter secured a 80-73 points win.

Male added: “I was giving a lot of weight away but I just boxed smartly.

“I had sparred him before and I knew how strong he was, I just had to make sure I was not involved in a punch up.

“I could not have asked for any more, the game plan worked perfectly.”

It was also a great night for Male’s training partner Jamie Ball, who preserved his own undefeated record with a comfortable points win over London-based Bulgarian Danny Dontchev.

Like Male, middleweight Ball did not lose a round, with Dontchev being deducted a point in the final round for hitting on the break.

Dudley welterweight Martin Gordon, who needed nine fights to earn his first victory as a professional, made it back wins by battling his way to a narrow 58-57 points success against Nuneaton's Kristian Laight.

Middleweight Sam Padgett made it a clean sweep for the quartet of Dudley fighters when he earned his second successive win as a professional with a 40-36 points success against Dave Sadler from Leeds.

Dudley’s English middleweight champion Darren McDermott is set to make his long-awaited return to the ring next month.

Macca’s re-arranged clash with Western Area belt holder Danny Bulter is scheduled to take place at Fenton Manor Sports Complex in Stoke-on-Trent on Friday November 13.

The fight was orginally due to take place at Manchester Velodrome last month but had to be postponed when McDermott suffered torn ligaments in his right shoulder.

But the 31-year-old is now back to full fitness and raring to go, knowing victory over Butler could lead to a crack at the British title.

Macca said: “The fight is on Friday 13 and that will be unlucky for Butler.

“I feel good, my shoulder is good and I’m back in training and ready to go.

“This is another great opportunity for me, it’s a fight I just can’t afford to lose.”

The British title is currently vacant with Darren Barker, who stopped McDermott in four rounds in May, awaiting an opponent.
