DUDLEY middleweight Jamie Ball will fight through the pain barrier as he aims to extend his unbeaten record this Saturday.

Ball will top the bill at the Venue in Dudley but his training has been hampered by damaged ligaments in his left knee, which are likely to require surgery.

The 25-year-old, who is unbeaten in eight professional bouts, is determined the injury will not ruin his big night.

He said: “It’s my first time topping the bill and I’m really looking forward to it.

“I damaged the ligaments in my right knee a couple of years ago and now my other knee is playing up.

“I’m having an MRI scan after the fight and I’ll probably have surgery in the new year, so I’ll be out for three to four weeks.

“It means I can’t do any running before the fight and I’ve had to adjust my training around it.

“But I’m confident it won’t be a problem.”

Ball says he is pleased with his progress through the professional ranks and is hoping to possibly challenge for the Midlands title next year.

But he is eager to gain as much experience in the ring as possible before taking a step up in class.

Ball added: “I think I’m definitely improving with every fight.

“I really believe preparation is the key, you can’t go into the ring with any doubts.

“It’s important to do all your hard work in the gym, so you feel 110 per cent before a fight.”

The evening at the Venue features a number of other borough boxers including featherweight Dean Anderson, who is making his long awaited debut.

Anderson has twice had to postpone his move into the professional ranks due to concern over his asthma but has now been given the all clear by medical staff.

He said: “It’s been frustrating to say the least but I’ve had a letter to say my licence has been approved.

“I’m confident, I feel brilliant in myself, I’m ever so happy that I can now make my debut.”

Welterweight Martin Gordon is also set to feature on the bill along with super-featherweight Spencer Evans, who is also making his professional bow.
