TWO tries in the opening eight minutes from James Jefferson helped DK to victory in the derby with Old Hales at Heathbrook.

The home side made an explosive start, racing into a 14-0 lead from which the visitors never fully recovered.

Jefferson gave DK the lead in just the fourth minute, touching down after a nice passing move, Nick Adams adding the conversion.

Things got worse for Old Hales soon after as Steve Head was sin-binned for stamping, before Jefferson doubled the lead as he collected a pass from Robbie Jones following a clever kick from Shaun Griffiths.

The latter blotted his copy book as he was sin-binned for a punch on 18 minutes, Seb Rose knocked over the penalty for Old Hales to reduce their arrears but they were unable to take advantage of the extra man as the DK forwards dominated.

It was somewhat ironic therefore that the visitors scored shortly after Griffiths had returned to the fray.

Again Jefferson was involved, as he fumbled a forward kick into the path of Luke Smith, who ran 40 metres to touch down his own kick.

Rose missed the conversion, with the arrears now reduced to six points.

But any hopes Old Hales had of holding the gap evaporated on the stroke of half-time as Stefan Shillingford notched DK's third try.

Smith collected a DK kick, only to launch a pass over the head of the covering Rose, allowing Jones to retrieve just yards from the line and hand off to Shillingford.

Adams shanked the conversion to leave the score 19-8 at the break.

The kicker sent over a penalty on 46 minutes to increase the lead to 14 points, before prop Richard Kelley became the second DK player sin-binned for retaliation.

Again the visitors could do little with the extra man and only a series of last-ditch tackles prevented the home side from increasing the lead.

Old Hales held out until three minutes from time, when Andy McEwan wriggled out of several challenges to touch down.

Ed Parry added a fifth DK try in stoppage time after a flowing move.
