DUDLEY Knights Hockey skipper Sol Buckner’s was left ruing a good Samaritan’s deed as his side were beaten 2-0 by Aston University.

One of the student’s cars had broken down on route to Earls High School on Saturday.

But after rescuing two players from the BP Garage in Manor Way, one of them went on to score against Buckner’s side.

On the pitch, the Knights were again on the back foot as the visitors searched for a way through a stubborn defence well marshalled by Richard Wood.

Makeshift midfielder Ed Parkes went closest for the Knights in the first half with a snap shot.

But the deadlock was broken on 25 minutes when an Aston player squeezed the ball past an outstretched keeper Mark Turner.

In the second half Aston stepped up the pressure and were rewarded on the hour with a second.

Buckner said: “We should have left their keeper and goalscorer at the garage. At least we might have scored!”

The Knights visit Kingswinford on Saturday for a 2.30pm push back at The Dell Stadium.

Dudley Ladies suffered a disappointing 5-0 reverse at Bridgnorth.

Dudley started the game brightly with a superb cross from Sarah Walker but none of the forwards could convert a shot.

They then fell behind to a goal from a short corner, before the hosts doubled the advantage just before the break.

Two counter-attacking goals in the early stages of the second half nullified any threat of a Dudley comeback and they again failed to defend a short corner for the fifth.

There was better news for the second XI who continued their good run with a 3-0 win over Cannock fifth team.

Kim Gwinnell, Elaine Mason and Abbie Fairley were the scorers.
