West Midlands Regional League GORNAL Athletic’s caretaker manager Simon Williams was left somewhat perplexed after seeing his side take control of their home game with Ledbury Town, build up a two goal lead... and then lose!

On the day Kieran Bennett bagged a hat-trick for Athletic but it was to no avail as Ledbury fought back from 3-1 down to win 4-3.

Beng Yella and Dorian Collings both scored twice for the Herefordshire side.

Gornal are without a game this weekend and won’t be in action again until they face Goodrich at home on Boxing Day which will give them plenty of time to work on their defensive frailties.

A home defeat too for Dudley Town against another Herefordshire team.

Dudley had led through Jamie Oliver but failed to find the right recipe and went off the boil as Wellington hit back to win 5-2. Dan Ashton scored from the spot for a late consolation.

Anthony Cox was the star as Tividale notched up a 3-1 win at Shawbury. He scored all their goals including one from the penalty spot.

Meanwhile Dudley Sports were just edged out 3-2 by Oldbury Athletic.

Athletic’s goals came from Dan Ludlow, Sean Williams and Billy Russell, with Richard Esp and Daryl Smith on the mark for Sports.

Dudley Town were due to visit Wednesfield in the league last night (Tue) while Dudley Sports were set to entertain Bromsgrove Reserves in the Worcestershire Senior Urn.

Dudley Town will also be in league action on Saturday when they visit Ellesmere Rangers. The Shropshire side beat Heath Town 2-0 at the weekend to stay just a point off joint league leaders AFC Wulfrunians and Bustleholme.

Tividale’s next league action is not until Tuesday, December 22, when they host Wednesfield.
