DUDLEY Kingswinford RFC flanker Ian Langford has claimed the Dudley News Sports Personality of the Year crown following a dramatic late charge.

Langford, a cult hero at Heathbrook for more than 15 years, picked up 46 per cent of the vote to pip long-time leader Danny Ashton.

The Dudley Town midfielfer had to settle for second with 39 per cent of the vote, ahead of karate star Richard Shipley and last year's winner Ann Iqa-Oqua.

In all more than 5,500 votes were cast in the last three weeks.
