SPORTS fanatics were left to rue another weekend whiteout as snow put paid to all the borough’s sporting fixtures.

Every match in the West Midlands Premier League fell victim to the adverse conditions, including the derby clash between Lye Town and Dudley Sports.

Gornal Athletic’s home fixture with Wolverhampton Casuals and Dudley Town and Tividale’s trips to Shawbury and Bromyard were also postponed.

Meanwhile, Dudley Kingswinford RFC were forced to call off their Midland One West game with Walsall. Halesowen Town versus Oxford City in the Southern League was also off, while the borough’s hockey fixtures were also a non-starter.

With the weather expected to improve slightly in the coming days, clubs will be hoping for better luck this coming weekend, with all in the West Midlands Premier having now been out of action for over a month.

Lye are scheduled to hold another derby when they welcome Dudley Town to Stourbridge Road, with Dudley Sports hosting Heath Town Rangers at Hillcrest Avenue.

Tividale travel to the Grove to take on Oldbury Athletic, while Gornal face a tough looking trip to Ledbury.

The freezing conditions have made even training difficult, though Dudley Town boss Ian Rowe revealed his players were doing all they could to stay in shape during the break. Town have not played since December 15, with the rest of their borough counterparts gameless since December 12.

Rowe said: “We managed to have an indoor training session last Wednesday, it’s just so frustrating but there is nothing we can do about it.”
