A STUNNING strike from debutant Wes Khan could not stop the Knights being hit for six by Barlaston on Saturday.

The 35-year-old Naval officer earned his stripes when he fired home a bullet of a cross from man-of-the-match Jess Warren.

Sol Buckner’s battle-hardened troops fought well again in the first half repelling wave upon wave of attacks.

Winger Phil Cox almost broke the deadlock on 17 minutes when he deflected a great cross from Adam Pritchard just wide of goal.

Then the hosts pressure paid off scoring two quick goals despite some brave saves from rookie keeper Marc Turner.

But uncharacteristically the Knights fell apart in the second half.

Barlaston scored four more goals including a penalty stroke conceded by the hard-working but unfortunate young defender James Wheeler.

Khan grabbed a consolation on the hour before Buckner almost made a second shooting inches wide in a goal mouth melee.

Skipper Buckner said: “We worked hard in the first half but sadly lost our way in the second.

“It was nice to score again and it was a class finish by Wes. It’s great we can now attract experienced players like Wes to our happy, friendly club.”

The Knights welcome promotion chasing Pershore to Earls High School in Halesowen at 2pm on Saturday then travel to Yardley for a re-arranged fixture on Sunday starting at 10.30am.
