Dudley Knights started off a string of pre-summer league friendly’s with a 3-2 win over West Bromwich thirds at a sweltering Sandwell Academy on Saturday afternoon.

Lead by vice captain Adam Pritchard, the Knights started off on the offensive but were quickly behind when West Bromwich broke through the defence and slotted a clean shot in the back of net.

The Knights soon picked up their heads and some fine hockey from winger Steve Griffiths started the scoring for the Dudley based team, when he clipped in a fast paced pass from midfielder Andrew Carey to equalise.

West Bromwich replied instantly with a rapid attack leading to a goal but the Knights levelled again minutes after the re-start, a collaboration of some well anticipated passing from midfielders Ed Parkes and Phil Cox setting up the second goal for the latter.

Despite several waves of attack West Bromwich couldn’t find another goal and on 59 minutes debutant player Andy Hewitt put the Knights ahead with what proved to be the winner.

The Knights return to action as they welcome Old Halesonians third team to the Four Dwellings High School for a 2pm pushback. For more information about Dudley Knights please visit www.dudleyknights.co.cc
