HIMLEY CC made the perfect start to the Black Country Floodlit 20/20 Premier League with a 43 run win over Wombourne.
The club’s Stourbridge Road home was transformed by eight floodlight pylons as the week-long cricketing extravaganza got underway, with a healthy crowd enjoying the action.
After being asked to bat in the opening 15-over per side fixture, Himley were initially pegged back by some tight bowling by Wombourne, before some big hitting by Bilaal Hussein broke the shackles.
Opener Daniel Cox (44) anchored the innings as Himley reached 118-6 from their 15 overs.
In response Wombourne were never up with the run rate after Jamie Lunn bagged two early wickets. They eventually reached 75-8 from their alloted overs.
In the second game Old Hill got off to a winning start with an impressive seven wicket win over Wolverhampton under the glare of the lights.
The action continues tonight when Himley look to make it two in a row against Wolverhampton (5.30), before Old Hill take on Womboune (7.40).

Thursday: 3rd/4th placed play-off (6.30).
