DUDLEY United Ladies boss Andy Mulligan is in typically super-confident mood as his side bid for cup glory this Sunday.

But Mulligan admits his players won’t be taking anything for granted when they face Hereford Pegasus in the West Midlands Cup final at Bedworth (4pm) - despite beating the same opponents 5-1 last weekend.

He said: “It will be a totally different game, there’s silverware on the line and I’m sure they will come flying out the blocks at us.

“I’ve don’t know whether it will be another 5-1 scoreline and really I’m not too bothered, so long as we win!

“I’ve told the girls the score is irrelevant, it’s all about getting the result.”

Sunday could see United complete the first part of a league and cup double though the former is still in the balance after rivals Solihull, who trail by ten points but with four games in hand, recorded a 12-0 win over Kidderminster.

Nevertheless Mulligan knows one slip up from their rivals will hand his side the title provided they win their remaining two games but will be hoping for an improvement in officiating, after making some particularly scathing comments after Dudley had three goals disallowed against Hereford.

He said: “Some of the referees seem to be making the rules up as they go along - it’s quite ridiculous really.

“On Sunday he was blowing up for some really silly, nothing fouls but letting the big ones go.

“Then in the final minute they scored a goal from a corner and our keeper was fouled and the ref later admitted he’s let the goal stand because we already had five.

“If we lose the title on goal difference, I’ll know who to blame.”
