HALESOWEN race ace Brad Hughes picked up a fine fourth place at Oulton Park in the Motostar Cup.

The result moved him up to seventh in the overall British Championship standings.

Hughes had fitted a new engine prior to the race but despite niggling gearbox problems he sailed through qualifying to start sixth on the grid.

As the race got underway, Hughes took time to get his tyres warmed up but was soon on the pace, moving through to latch onto the back of a group of four riders a few yards ahead.

It was all exciting stuff with the riders ahead exchanging places throughout the race.

On the drag to the flag Hughes crossed the finish line in sixth place overall but because two riders ahead of him were ineligible for points in the Motostar Cup, he completed that section of the race in a fine fourth place.

He said: “I am really pleased with fourth place.

“I have to thank my main sponsor, Penn White for their continued support and have gone someway to repay them this weekend.”
