STOURBRIDGE are waiting on an answer from midfielder Jay Denny as to whether he is to join the Amblecote side as the pre-season team building hots up ahead of the first friendly at Bartley Green on Saturday (3pm).

The 26-year-old midfielder was surprisingly released from Hednesford Town at the end of last season and is a free agent.

Denny has represented his native USA at under 20 level and also numbers Stoke City, Shrewsbury Town, Halesowen Town and Nuneaton Town amongst his former clubs. He trained with Worcester City on Tuesday but was expected to give Stourbridge boss Gary Hackett his decison last night (Wednesday).

Assistant boss Jon Ford said if he did join, he would be a good addition to the squad.

He said: “There are another couple of clubs interested which shows what a good player Jay potentially is – he is experienced, young and would fit in well to any team at this level.”

If Denney does join, he would be Stourbridge’s second signing of the close season after forward Luke Benbow joined from Redditch.Ford said they would be looking at a number of trialists at Bartley Green, including some youngsters released from Premier League and Championship clubs.

He said: “It is very early to be finalising things yet and we are looking forward to the Bartley Green friendly because it will give us a good chance to view some potential players.

“We know what the likes of Nathan Bennett and Sam Rock can do, so the line up may be a bit more experimental to give us a chance to have a look at some new names.” Meanwhile, forward Marcus Palmer is set to leave Amblecote due to work commitments.GresThe forward joined from Evesham in March but has not yet signed for the 2012-13 season, though he has not officially left yet.

But Sean Geddes and Paul McCone have committed their immediate future to Stourbridge.

Geddes, who attracted attention from league clubs after last season’s FC cup exploits, was out of contract but has now signed on the dotted line and McCone is staying as well.

Ford said: “Good players will attract interest and it is no secret Sean and Paul are ambitious but for the moment they are happy being here, though obviously as a club we are not in the habbit of standing in a players way if they can better themselves.”

Meanwhile Stourbridge’s friendly at Bromsgrove Sporting a week on Saturday has been postponed, with a game at Cradley Town arranged instead. Stourbridge will also play Mansfield Town at home on Tuesday July 31.
