McEvilly lands RFU post

A FORMER Stourbridge rugby player has been handed a top position at the RFU.

Gerard McEvilly, who played for Stour during the early 90s, will take over as the governing body’s head of discipline in September.

The 42-year-old, a former pupil at St Joseph’s RC Primary in Norton, has been part of Herefordshire RFU’s disciplinary committee since 2008 and last year was appointed to sit on the RFU disciplinary panel.

McEvilly played rugby for Old Swinford Hospital School and at Stourbridge until 1993, when he moved to London to train as a barrister.

He is currently head of legal advice and hearings management at the General Pharmaceutical Council.

McEvilly said: “I am delighted at being offered the role of head of discipline at the RFU and to be able to combine my regulatory and disciplinary experiences with my passion for rugby.

“I very much look forward to working closely with colleagues at the RFU.”
