Swimmers battle into top five
8:00pm Friday 27th July 2012 in Sport
HALESOWEN Swimming Club finished fifth in the Mercian Summer League final round.
With the league’s top six teams in action it was always going to be a tough night, particularly as none of Halesowen’s 31 regional qualifiers were eligible for the event in Nuneaton.
From the early stages it was clear Hales would struggle and at the midway point they trailed last by six points.
But they still produced nemerous fine individiual performances and personal bests which lifted them to fifth by the end.
The under-12 freestyle girls relay team of Emma Bird, Lauren Hill, Molly Kelly and Talia Mitchell claimed victory in their event, as did the under-12s boys medley relay team of Jakob Baker, James Cuthbert, George Davies and Zac Rollason.
Final scores: Leamington Spa 214, Nuneaton and Bedworth 188, City of Coventry 185, Kingsbury Aquarius 161, Halesowen 147, Redditch 141.
