HALESOWEN Cycling Club’s Callum Ferguson finished a solid 28th overall in the Junior Tour of Wales.
The 16-year-old recovered from a tough start to finish strongly in the four day race, claming 21st spot on the final stage up the notrious Tumble climb.
Dave Viner, the club’s road team manager, said: “This was a very encouraging ride from Callum in the toughest event around for junior riders.
“It was a shame really he had such a poor start when he was not firing on all cyclinders in the first stage.
“But by the end of the week he was back riding like his normal self and it is all good experience for him going forward.”
Elsewhere, Halesowen’s Matt Clarke was denied victory in the Pinarello Road Race after he appeared to slow before the line and was overtaken by Dream CC’s Henry Latimer.
Clarke and team-mate Dan Harris will ride the prestigious Newport Nocturne this Saturday, where the field includes Olympic track star Ed Clancy.
