Charlesworth club land big medal haul
2:00pm Sunday 2nd September 2012 in Sport
CHARLESWORTH Martial Arts enjoyed a hugely successful weekend at the WOMAA World Games, justifying their credentials as one of the strongest kickboxing outfits around.
The team from Cradley Heath took home a huge medal haul, including victories in both individual and team events.
Weston Bogle, Tara Billingham, Kyeran Cox and Reuben Charlesworth got the ball rolling, claiming victory in the team fighting tournament. Representing England, the club saw off the challenge from the Welsh side in a one-sided final. The semi-final had been a much closer affair as they edged past the Irish team, showing grit and determination. After struggling in the early stages they mustered a thrilling come-from-behind win.
A win already in the bag, Reuben Charlesworth picked up another in the individuals, as the Bishop Milner student beat his Canadian adversary with ease.
Tyler Cox, aged nine, was among the medals in his own event — missing out on gold by just one point. Elsewhere, Jodie Lee and Billingham also acquitted themselves brilliantly, taking first place in seperate competitions.
Instructor Jason Charlesworth, who also acted as the side’s Head Coach, was quick to heap praise on his fighters.
He said: “CMA have over the years produced excellent competitors but this team is by far the best I've coached to date.”
