Gornal and Tivi fly the flag for borough in FA Cup
8:53am Thursday 20th September 2012 in Sport
CUP magic will engulf the borough once more this Saturday as Gornal Athletic and Tividale go for more glory.
Both sides face huge tests against Blue Square Bet North opponents in the second qualifying round.
The Peacocks host Worcester City in a mouth-watering clash at the Garden Walk, while Dean Whitehouse ’s Tivi make the trip to Hinckley United.
He said: “It’s a massive, massive day. We go in as huge underdogs and the most important thing is giving a good account of ourselves.
“In many ways it’s a trip into the unknown, most of my lads will not hae faced players of this quality before.
“If things go to form we shouldn’t stand a chance but we will be giving it 100 per cent.”
Tividale’s preparations for their trip to Leicestershire have been soured by the serious injury sustained by Brett Clark in last Saturday’s 5-1 win at Coleshill Town.
The striker suffered a fractured eye socket and cheekbone after being elbowed in the face by Coleshill skipper Joseph Lyng in the closing stages of the game.
Clark was immediately taken to hospital and was due to see a specialist yesterday to decide whether the injury requires surgery.
Manager Dean Whitehouse said: “It was a disgusting challenge.
“What made it more incredible was the time it happened as there wasn’t much life left in the game.
“You heard it crack and knew straight away it was a bad one.
“It could have started a riot and the referee sent him off straight away.”
With strike partner Kyle Brady away on holiday, Matt Jukes and Orlando Lewis are likely to start at Hinckley.
Whitehouse has promised a no holds barred performance against Conference North’s bottom club.
He said: “We will go for it, what have we got to lose?”
Dudley Town next take the field on Sunday when they host Wolverhampton Sporting Community in the West Midlands Premier League.
Andy Burgess’ side claimed a 1-1 with Wellington Amateurs last Saturday.
Dudley Sports travel to Wolverhampton Casuals on Saturday looking to record their third straight league win, following last weekend’s 4-0 triumph at Willenhall Town.
