Wolves prove too strong in friendly

OLD Halesonians Hockey Club’s pre-season ended in disappointment as they lost a thriller 5-3 to Wolverhampton.

The Wassell Grove side had led 2-0 at one stage but the visitors scored five unanswered goals to snatch the win.

Tom Bulteel gave Old Hales the perfect start when he fired past the Wolverhampton keeper. Hales were dominating possession and Graham Knight was able to capitalise on this when he doubled the home teams’ advantage following an effective counter attack.

But Hales then lost their structure and Wolves scored three goals in quick succession before the half-time break.

They added two more early in the second period before Doug Houghton netted a late consolation for the hosts.

Old Hales begin their Midland Premier campaign this Saturday at Hampton-in-Arden.

The seconds will take great comfort in their display despite a 4-1 defeat at Khalsa.

Against the reigning Midland Premier champions, Old Hales lead at half-time thanks to a goal from Charles Palmer. But the hosts fought back to win the 90 minute contest 4-1.

Elsewhere, Adam Hill scored twice as the thirds beat Finchfield 2-1, while the fourths drew 2-2 with their Finchfield rivals and Badgers drew 1-1, also against their counterparts from Finchfield.
