Mechanical problems thwart Hughes

HALESOWEN race ace Brad Hughes suffered more frustration as mechanical trouble ended his hopes at Silverstone.

The 15-year-old went into the penultimate round of the British Motostar Championship in good spirits and with hopes of a strong finish in his second outing for new team Repli-Cast Racing.

But despite recording some of his fastest ever times around the Northamptonshire circuit to qualify 13th, his race lasted only four laps as the bike seized up to end his hopes.

Hughes said: “We thought we had found a good setting in warm-up and we went for the race to get a good solid finish.

“The first couple of laps were chaotic and I ran wide and dropped to 16th.

“I’d managed to catch them back up, but then unfortunately the bike said enough was enough and seized.

“Still, it was good fun and we look forward to the last round at Brands Hatch.”

The season finale is at Brands Hatch over the weekend of October 12 to 14 when Hughes will be striving to bring a top result back to his new team and end the season on a high note.
