There is a nip in the air and a wounded ManYoo are coming to Villa Park tomorrow.

I’ve that sinking feeling of de-ja-vu of wearing hat and scarf watching the Villa get beaten at home by the Champions.

Let’s hope we dont score first and annoy them.

As sure as a hang over follows the Christmas do Manchester United usually beat in the bleak midwinter.

And what a bleak midwinter this looks to be for our fine old club.

ManYoo, Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea are head and shoulders above us and all the games could go the same way of this season’s tangles with the top six when we were outclassed and embarrassed by Man City and Tottenham.

This Premiership is all about the money, forget the TalkSport, London media, BBC and such like banging on about how wonderful the league is because it is all about how much money you spend when it comes to where you finish in the top half.

It less competitive than an arm wrestle between Fatima Whitbread and Jeremy Beadle. Seven points separate 7th and 8th and that is likely to grow too.

We are in the Race for Seventh and that is it. And we will have to remain injury free and rely on other teams misfortunes to clinch that. Newcastle have streaked away and are favourites to clinch 7th spot, we are in 8th but in a false position because of our bleak midwinter fixtures.

The big spenders in the Race for Seventh are Sunderland. And now it looks like they will have our old manager Martin O’Neill. Who speaking to lots of Villa fans now it appears was the worst manager we ever had. We all loved him when he came. And he built a cracking team with Lerner’s money and we had a belting few years trying to get into the top four. Then the Oilmen bought Man City and the writing on the wall. Yes he left us with some overpaid pap and left us at the alter of last season. But you cant judge a relationship by its end, ends are by definition bad, you have to try and remember the good times.

But you can guarantee Sunderland will hammer us now he is manager. But I do feel a bit sorry for him and them, they will spend a shedload of money and for what? Maybe coming fifth one season, if they are lucky.

Nope last season was our last cough and splutter in the Premiership before we go and hibernate in mid-table obscurity for at least five years .

That is until some human rights dodging, gay hating, women suppressing oil billionaire decides to make us kings, oh hang on UEFA will not even let that happen now.

Last year’s home game against ManYoo was one of our finest moments and we couldn’t even win that game.

Gabby, Young, Downing, Bannan and even Marc ‘Disaster Zone’ Albrighton played out their skins constantly attacking and creating chances.

Ahh attacking football, we deserve a bit of that dont we, I dont even have the energy to get riled about Alex McLeish but it serves Lerner and doughboy Paul Faulkner right that there are so many empty seats down Villa Park.

OK Houllier was a bizarre choice but though he made some huge personal mistakes like constantly smelling his fingers after touching the This is Anfield sign as his first love beat us and surrendering the FA Cup at Man City, the Frenchman wanted to play football, he just didn’t have his own players to do it.

But of course the fans got on his back, his was our manager after all.

Then they try and get the least threatening nice guy in the Premiership Roberto Martinez. A manager who wants to play decent football, even when his team are staring at relegation his footballing principals come first.

But Martinez refused after realising we had no money to spend and that whole ‘trying to get into the top four’ thing was behind us. So they hire McLeish. Who’d just been relegated and plays defensive boring football and was Blues manager.

Being in this Premiership with no money is like missing the last bus and having McLeish as manager is like having to walk home in the buff.

We were quite attacking at the start of the season with even Ireland getting a game but now our midfield couldn’t pass water after a cider convention.

Can you blame Villa fans for staying away? The manager needs to put two up front because us fans need to jump up and down and get excited by attacks to keep us cowing warm in the freezing cold.

And now dweeboy Faulkner wonders why there are empty seats, they knew what they were doing though, after all you can not return you season ticket now unlike before and that my friends says it all.

So I’ll be at the Villa tomorrow, I haven’t really got a choice have I?
