Good riddance to an awful manager after an awful season in an awful league

Aston Villa’s awful season is over and it says how bad it was when the most joyful day is the one when Alex McLeish leaves the club.

The incredibly stupid decision to hire a manager who had just been relegated and from Blues was always going to end badly and it has.

This is the season when the chairman, his clueless chief executive, the PR department, the players, the manager and even many fans let our great club down.

McLeish was never going to succeed but he wanted the job knowing he had a rubbish overpaid squad and his main brief was to keep us up and reduce the wage bill.

And he did that and got paid handsomely for it.

But his boring ultra-defensive style of football proved his undoing in the end, the first ten fixtures were the easiest yet in the Premiership and even with a full team he floundered back then.

Four home wins says it all.

The dross at the bottom of the table meant we should have stayed up but long term injuries to Bent and others and the shocking news about our most important player and captain Petrov created a perfect storm.

Added to the fact Villa Park was a toxic place from Christmas onwards we were lucky to stay up.

And we did, but not before the Villa put out one of the most cringe-worthy 'we feel your pain' American style statement out which addressed the fans like they were a class of children who they did not want to smash up the coach on their first school trip.

But make no mistake what would have scared the Villa board was not the singing and the shouting it would have been the miniscule season ticket renewals.

That is where fans made their voices heard not holding embarrasingly small protests which only a few badly dressed fans bothered to turn up.

McLeish got a lot of disgusting personal attacks from the bedsheet brigade and people hiding behind Twitter accounts who tarnished the reputation of decent Villa fans.

As we move on there needs to be big changes if we want to be an outside bet in the Race for Seventh and not stuck in the Race for Sixteenth again.

We need someone on the board who has a clue about football, we need a decent director or a non-executive director who understands the game so idiotic decisions like McLeish being appointed never happens again.

McLeish will get a nice pay off to go with Houllier and MON, I wouldn’t mind being invited to an Aston Villa Former Managers Association event as I bet it is an orgy of Champagne and Caviar with hilarious tales of money wasted stretch into the early hours.

And don’t forget our players.

Besides Petrov and Given everyone of them let us down with some downright awful displays, they knew however bad they played McLeish would get the blame so they went missing for games on end.

However, with McLeish gone we can now bathe in the idiotic hope we will get a top class manager who will be given over £100m to spend to get us back into contention in this most lopsided and boring of football leagues.

This league where every commentator goes into hyperbole mode because the richest club of the lot had the grace to leave it late to win the championship.

It is bad enough being stuck in a league where only money matters and which we will never win, unless they find a diamond mine under Villa Park, but having to watch poor football week in week out just adds insult to injury.

All I want to see attacking football down the Villa, I tasted it under Houllier and want more, is that too much to ask?

But then again I’m just a fan who pays to go to the games and we all know fans are at the bottom of this Premier League food chain behind the tv, the radio, the players, the Far East market, the near East market, the racist captains, the women suppressors, the human rights dodging oilmen who abuse migrant workers, the armchair fans who have not been to game in decades and anyone else who can help the all important brand.

Best league in the world? You are having a laugh.
