Relegation threatened Gornal Athletic will not be pushing the panic button according to boss Simon Williams.

The Peacocks currently sit next to bottom in the West Midlands Premier Division without a league win since October 27 but the manager feels there is some light at the end of the tunnel.

Williams will take his low on confidence squad to fellow strugglers Wellington on Saturday on the back of four straight league defeats.

The manager has been hit hard by injuries and player work commitments but despite this and their perilous league position he is still in a positive mood.

He said: "It has been hard this season, firstly we had a long injury list and for the last month we've had players missing due to work commitments and due to this we have had to throw some lads from the youth team in to the deep end which is not ideal.

"I can't blame the players because they are not paid or on contracts so with Christmas coming up people need to work.

"Hopefully once Christmas is out of the way things will start settling down and I'm sure we will start climbing the table."

Williams who in the last few weeks has added Luke Bradley, Lee Dukes, Ryan Edmunds and Nigerian midfielder Yousef Giwa to his squad has also put seven day approaches in for two unnamed targets in a bid to re-inforce his squad for the busy festive period.

Williams added: "The new players have certainly added some quality and I'm sure once I can get my first 11 out we will pick up some wins because looking at this table I believe we have the talent and ability to be in the top ten."

Dudley Town are still open to applications for their vacant manager's job.

The Robins committee have already received plenty of interest for the post but they are still open to more for a position vice chairman Steve Austin describes as both "high profile" and "attractive" .

Austin said: "We have been delighted with the response we have already received but not surprised.

"We have had a mix of experienced and inexperienced applicants but we are still open to more because we are in no rush to appoint antyone while Ian Rowe and Rob Perks are willing to help out.

"This is a position which should attract a lot of interest because we are one of the oldest clubs in the country with an illustrious history.

"We've had our ups and downs in the past but we seem to be back on track.

"We are sitting fifth in the table so who ever comes in will not be trying to turn around a struggling side."

Anyone wishing to apply should visit the club's official website at www.dudleytownfc.org.uk for more details.

This Saturday the caretaker pair of Rowe and Perks will take their side to Bewdley.

They will be without the services of Harpreet Singh who has moved to Sporting Khalsa and Jordan Tipper who has joined ex-boss Dean Whitehouse at Tividale.

Tivi will host Pelsall Villa at the Beeches this Saturday (3pm kick off).

Meanwhile second placed Dudley Sports will be hoping to close the gap on league leaders Bridgnorth at the weekend when they visit Bewdley Town.
