Sunday signings
Gornal Athletic boss Simon Williams stated the case for the standard of Sunday morning football after taking a punt on two new signings.
Williams has snapped up Geoff Hill and Anthony Penn out of the Dudley and Cradley League and the former has already notched twice in his opening two outings.
The Peacocks manager has had success in the past after picking up first-team regulars Lee and Steve Witton out of Sunday football and he's now confident the new duo also have the ability to step up to the plate.
He said: "We are not a club who has the money to go out and snap players up from rival clubs so we have to look at alternative ways of getting in new players.
"I have always had a look around the Sunday leagues because there is a lot of unearthed talent out there.
"I did a similar thing with the Wittons and hopefully the new lads will have similar success.
"Geoff has scored twice already and ever since he arrived he has been exceptional."
The Gornal boss has also been able to snap up the services of veteran attacking midfielder Gary Bruce.
Bruce, whose former clubs include Willenhall Town and Halesowen Town, will go straight into the squad for Saturday's West Midlands Premier Division trip to Darlaston Town (3pm kick-off) although Michael Perks will be missing with a back injury.
Meanwhile Dudley Town hold local bragging rights after defeating Dudley Sports 2-1 at the Dell Stadium.
The first Dudley derby this season was deservedly won by the home team who were losing 1-0 at the break after Mat Bridgwater had given the visitors the lead.
But a second-half header from Christos Makris and late winner from Sam Thasker sealed all three points for the Robins.
Town will travel to Ludlow this Saturday (3pm kick-off) while Sports will host Wellington (3pm kick-off).
Brierley Hill and Withymoor will have a weekend off after drawing 2-2 away at Wednesfield.
