Sports injury crisis
Bore draw: Dudley Town player/manager Rob Perks goes to ground in the 0-0 draw with Dudley Sports on Saturday.
Bore draw: Dudley Town player/manager Rob Perks goes to ground in the 0-0 draw with Dudley Sports on Saturday.

Dudley Sports have been hit by a mini injury crisis as they head into the biggest week of their over-achieving season.

Sports played out a dull derby 0-0 at home to Dudley Town in the West Midlands Premier Division on Saturday, which saw them slip from second to fifth in the table but even worse they picked up three key injuries.

The management duo of Neil Perks and Paul Blakeley are now preparing their troops for an away day trip to champions Bridgnorth on Saturday (3pm kick-off) before they welcome AFC Wulfrunians in the first-leg of their League Cup semi-final next Tuesday (7.45pm kick-off).

Perks said: "Saturday's 0-0 draw was disappointing and a point was no good to either side.

"Both of us tried to play football but the awful conditions ruined the occasion.

"We now have a massive week ahead of us and everyone is looking forward to it."

The management duo, who were already without James Beddard, are also set to be without the key trio of Chris Raybone (foot), Chris Howard and Andy Blakeley (both hamstring) after they all picked up injuries in the Dudley Town clash, for Saturday's match.

Perks added: "We didn't have a good day in terms of injuries on Saturday and it means we maybe a little short of options for Bridgnorth.

"Although we want to finish as high as possible in the league our priority is now the League Cup, so if not playing them on Saturday gives us a chance of having them available for next Tuesday we will probably not risk them."

Dudley Town will be looking to pick up all three-points when they welcome a struggling Ledbury side to the Dell Stadium on Saturday (3pm kick-off).

Meanwhile, Brierley Hill and Withymoor will be looking shore up their defence after going down 6-3 to Bewdley at the Grove last weekend.

Tony Gore's men sit third from bottom of the table after the heavy loss.

This Saturday they travel to mid-table Ludlow (3pm kick-off).

Sitting one place above Brierley Hill are Gornal Athletic.

They will welcome Darlaston to the Garden Walk Stadium on Saturday (3pm kick-off).

Tividale ended a three-match losing streak after drawing 0-0 away at AFC Wulfrunians.

Dean Whitehouse's men are without a game this weekend but will be in action next Tuesday when they welcome local rivals Lye Town to the Beeches.
