Brierley Hill and Withymoor boss Tony Gore believes his side will relish the underdog tag as they prepare to face Alvechurch in the Worcestershire Senior Urn Final next Tuesday (7.30pm kick-off).

In their first season under their new name the club have had a difficult campaign in the West Midlands Premier Division but they will be planning to put that to one side when they run out at Aggborough (Kidderminster Harriers FC).

They will go into the mouth-watering match as the outsiders as Alvechurch ply their trade one league above in the Midland Alliance.

Gore is confident that his side can cause a major shock, however.

He said: "It's been a disappointing season because we really haven't picked up the results we should have.

"It's been frustrating because against the good sides we have picked up some excellent results but against the sides at the bottom of the table we have struggled.

"However, we have given ourselves a great opportunity to finish the season on a high and with a trophy.

"We are under no illusions that we will go into the game very much as underdogs but it's a one-off game and anything can happen.

"We are all very much looking forward to it and all I can say is bring it on."

The final has already been causing controversy, however, after Alvechurch were given special dispensation to play three players in the final who were signed after the Cup deadline passed.

Gore and officials at Brierley Hill and Withymoor lodged an appeal on Monday and are expecting a decision by the end of the week.

The three players in question are former Tividale striker Dave Brown, ex-Causeway United attacking midfielder Chris Blaydon and Balginder Bassi.

The trio have been allowed to take a place on the substitutes bench in the final due to an injury crisis that has hit the Lye Meadow club.

Meanwhile, in the league Brierley Hill eased any lingering relegation fears after hammering Ludlow 6-1 away last weekend.

This Saturday they welcome Dudley Sports to the Grove (3pm kick-off).

Sports have slipped down to sixth in the table and will be looking for their first league win in four when they travel across the borough.

Last weekend they were beaten 2-0 at champions Bridgnorth.

Joint-manager Neil Perks said: "We gave it a real go second-half and with a bit of luck could have got back into the game, but it was not to be."

Meanwhile, Sports drew 2-2 at home with AFC Wulfrunians in the first leg of their League Cup semi-final.

Dudley Town will be hoping to climb back into the top five on Saturday if they can beat third-placed Ellesmere Rangers at the Dell Stadium on Saturday (3pm kick-off).

The Robins are currently flying high in seventh after they recorded a 2-0 home win over struggling Ledbury on Saturday thanks to goals from Danny Ashton and joint-manager Rob Perks.

Gornal Athletic will be hoping to bounce back from last weekend's disappointing 3-0 home defeat to Darlaston Town when they travel to fourth-placed Bewdley.

The Peacocks also missed out on a trip to Molineux after they were defeated 1-0 by AFC Wulfrunians in the JW Hunt Cup semi-final.

However, they still have the chance of silverware in League Cup after defeating Wednesfield 1-0 away in the first-leg on Tuesday evening.

The second leg will take place at the Garden Walk Stadium on Tuesday April 29.

Tividale and Lye Town played out an entertaining 3--3 draw at the Beeches on Tuesday evening.
