Wonderful Waldron wins top title
A JUBILANT Joanne Waldron took the Stourbridge Labour Indoor Singles title with three single figure wins to her name.
In the last eight she defeated Becky Whitehouse 10-5 before beating Paul Smith 11-8 in the last four.
Waldron was then crowned champion following a convincing 10-5 win in the final over Dave Pearsall.
The doubles prize of £100 went to Dave and Trevor Bate who defeated Mark and Malcolm Webster 12-7 in their last game of the season.
DMBEC C' are the Cookley Indoor Division One champions beating last year's winners Netherton Cons 198 in their last game of the season.
Division Two winners were Cradley Heath Libs who in their first season in the league galloped home by seven points from second-placed White Horse, Wollescote took third spot.
Baggeridge defeated Portland Road 38-28 to take the Hadley Indoor Sunday league title for the third year running.
One of the best known bowling green's on the Black Country bowls scene could be no more after the pub the Woodman at Brierley Hill has been put up for sale.
The pub is the home to the Woodman Bowls Club which has been in existence for 40 years. In the late 1990s the club when it was also threatened with closure fielded ten teams in local leagues.
In the past the club were asked to pay around £1,000 to use the green and this resulted in many members seeking to display their skills elsewhere.
The British Crown Green Bowling Association have announced the list of qualifying competitions for the 2008 Champion of Champions to be played at the Waterloo Hotel Blackpool on Saturday, September 27.
The winners of the 16 county merits will be joined by the winners of the BCGBA Senior and Junior Individual Merits. Along with the winners of the BCGBA Veterans Merit, the British Parks Merit, the Midland Masters, the Waterloo Championship, the Spring Waterloo, Isle of Man September Festival,The Isle of Man June Festival, Talbot Trophy, Meole Brace Open, Tipton and Coseley Centenary Trophy, Hillcrest Classic, Cleckheaton Classic, Brighouse Classic, South Leeds Classic. The winner receives £1,000
