After a resurgence in the British Crown Green Ladies Senior County Championships over recent seasons Dudley and District ladies came back down to earth with a bump, losing their first match of this seasons campaign by 60 overall against North Warwickshire.

At home at the George Warley the Black Country outfit had two winners in the first four, Mandy Pagett 21-16, Jenny Geary 21-17 but trailed by five.

In the second four wins from Julie Bullock 21-10 and two 21-15 wins from Rita Barnett and Jan Pratley turned the situation round and the home side lead by 15.

The outstanding performance on the day came from Claire Pugh with a 21-6 victory and she was ably supported in the back four by Ann Hill 21-12 and Ruth Brookes 21-14 which meant a respectable home win by 43 for Dudley.

North Warwickshire however have one of the trickiest home greens in the country at Bedworth and this was to prove conclusive on the day.

After the first four away Dudley trailed by 24 with Jos Felton the lone winner 21-10.

It then got worse as without a winner in the middle four which included a second 21-3 reversal Dudley fell even further behind to the tune of 74.

Although Alison Gaynham became Dudley's second winner away 21-15 the final home plus for North Warwickshire was 103.

Dudley County Secretary Sue Pugh said it was now a case of back to the drawing board and hopefully a win against the counties next opponents Shropshire on May 18.
