Sports set sights on Dudley revenge
Dudley Sports will be looking for derby day revenge as they go head to head with Dudley Town on Saturday when they pay a visit to Hillcrest Avenue.
The Robins claimed a 2-1 home win when the two sides met at the Dell Stadium back on Saturday, March 1.
The defeat was the start of a three-match winless streak for Sports, including a 2-0 defeat at Wolverhampton Casuals which joint-managers Neil Perks and Paul Blakeley ranked as their worst showing of an otherwise super season.
However, in the the last week, Sports have come back strongly with a 2-1 win at home to Tividale last Tuesday, followed by a 4-2 victory at Goodrich on Saturday and a goalless draw at Gornal Athletic on Bank Holiday Monday.
Perks said: "The attitude of the boys has been spot-on since the disappointing defeat away at Wolverhampton Casuals earlier in the month.
"They performed excellently against Tividale and then probably as well as they have all season against Goodrich, despite being 2-0 down after only 20 minutes and then picked up a decent point against Gornal.
"This hopefully sets us up nicely for the derby on Saturday.
"To be honest our derby day from hasn't been the best this season and it will be nice to address that on Saturday.
"Like ourselves Town have had a good season so it should be a good a game.
"It will be our aim to address the local bragging rights because they beat us at their place and we now need to win at ours."
Sports sit third in the West Midlands Premier Division with only four fixtures to go plus a two-legged League Cup semi-final against AFC Wulfrunians and Perks is keen to see his side finish the campaign on a high.
He said: "Our goals for the season have changed due to our success but the ambition now with only four league games to go is to finish second in the league and also pick up some cup silverware.
"We have put in a tremendous amount of hardwork to get ourselves in this position and it would great to have something to show for it come May.
"However, whatever the outcome the season has been a great success and to be playing for something going into April shows how far we have come, because by the middle of March last season we were playing for nothing."
Sports will go into the clash with only James Beddard missing as he continues to recover from a hamstring injury.
The Robins sit only three points behind Sports so will also have that runners-up spot in their sights with runaway leaders Bridgnorth only one win away from the title.
Town drew 1-1 away at Wellington on Saturday, but joint-managers Ian Rowe and Rob Perks will be looking to claim a memorable double over their near neighbours.
Another team still eyeing runners-up spot are Lye Town, whose 3-1 Good Friday win over bitter rivals Brierley Hill and Withymoor made it five wins on the bounce.
The win was played in front of Lye Towns biggest crowd of the season and means they are now just six points behind second placed Ellesmere Rangers.
Top scorer Ashley Greenaway bagged a first half brace with Ben Billingham getting the third just after half-time.
Geoff Moss's men will travel to Ludlow this Saturday.
Meanwhile Brierley Hill will welcome Bewdley Town to the Grove (3pm kick-off) this Saturday.
Causeway United suffered a disappointing Bank Holiday weekend picking up only point from two games.
United lost 1-0 at home to Biddulph on Saturday and followed that up with a 1-1 draw away at Studley.
Carl Birley's men will be hoping to get back on track when they host Oadby at the War Memorial on Saturday (3pmkick-off).
