Heathbrook witnessed a weekend to remember with both Dudley Kingswinford first team and the Colts side picking up memorable victories.

On Saturday, the firsts made it two wins out of two for new head coaches Neil Shillingford and Mark Lockley to lift them off the bottom of the Midlands Division One table.

Meanwhile, on Sunday the all-conquering Colts - also under the guidance of Shillingford and Lockley - reached the last 16 of the National Colts Cup competition for the first time, by defeating a strong Market Bosworth side 10-0 in front of a 400-strong home crowd.

A delighted Neil Shillingford said: "All in all it was good weekend for the club and it was once again buzzing.

"On Saturday the lads seem to have taken our back-to-basics approach on board and it's paying dividends.

"There were some very good performances especially within the forwards."

The joint head coach refused to be drawn on how they stand in the survival race but instead stated the team would just be taking it one game at a time.

Shillingford also had praise for the youngsters who he believes could be pushing for first team berths before the end of the campaign.

He added:" It is a massive achievement and they deserve a lot of credit because it's down to them.

"Against an unknown team and in front of a big crowd we looked a little bit nervous at the start but we came on strong and deserved the win."

DK firsts travel to Loughborough Students this Saturday (2.15pm kick-off)
