All smiles for Shaun

9:48am Thursday 9th August 2007

Dudley-Kingswinford supporter and former scrum half, Shaun Perry, did his dreams of representing England in the Rugby World Cup this autumn no harm after playing a starring role in their 62-5 demolition of Wales on Saturday.

The 29-year-old international (pictured), who still lives in Lye, celebrated his tenth cap for the reigning world champions with a try in the win.

The former welder who plays for Premiership side Bristol was making his first steps in the professional game during the 2003 World Cup so to be in consideration for the nation's defence of the Webb Ellis Trophy is a remarkable achievement.

Perry, who's still a regular visitor to Heathbrook has shed more than a stone in weight while on a gruelling training camp alongside the likes of Johnny Wilkinson, Jason Robinson and Lawrence Dallagio to give himself the best possible chance of making England coach Brian Ashton's final squad for the tournament in France.

Meanwhile D-K will kick off their pre season with a trip to Western-Super-Mare on Saturday August 18.
