All hail Old Hales
DAVENTRY 0, OLD HALES 12.
There seems to be no end to Old Hales' winning streak after they progressed to the EDF Senior Vase fourth round with this excellent 12-0 win away at Daventry.
The game was dominated by Hales in terms of possession although they struggled to turn this into points. They faced a tough challenge early on from the Daventry forwards, Chris Wagstaff making a try-saving tackle.
For the remainder of the half the home side worked tirelessly in defence to keep Hales out. This hard word was undone, just before the break, when the visitors broke the deadlock. From an attacking lineout five metres out, Hales worked a superb move, offloading the ball to Eoin McMahon, who powered over untouched to score an unconverted try.
After the break Hales increasingly dominated at the set-piece, taking a number of scrums and line-outs against the head. Despite, this dominance and with the wind and slope in their favour, it wasn't until the 63rd minute when they added their second try. A well-worked backs move, saw Mark Wakefield in space, some excellent support play from back-rows Steve Gollins and Alan Hubbleday allowed the latter to ground the ball for a try, which was converted by Seb Rose.
This Saturday Hales travel away to Newcastle to continue their unbeaten league campaign.
