End on a high

Floored: DK will be aiming to dust themselves down and get their season back on track at home to Kenilworth on Saturday.

A DEFLATED Dudley Kingswinford will be hoping to go in to 2008 with some festive cheer as they set about winning only their second game of the season at home to Kenilworth on Saturday.

The Heathbrook fixture will be the last of a rollercoaster year which saw them finish second in Midlands Division One last season before agonisingly missing out on promotion in a 7-3 play-off defeat at Beverley.

However, this season has seen them pick up only one league win to leave them adrift at the bottom of the table.

Club press officer Peter Stinton is hoping for a much-needed victory over Kenilworth to send everyone into their Christmas break with a glimmer of optimism for the second half of the campaign.

He said: "It would be great to end the year on a high with a win over Kenilworth.

"It's been extremely disappointing the way things have gone this season considering how close we were to promotion last time round.

"The coach and the staff have done everything they can and its certainly not due to a lack of effort."

Stinton believes there have been a number of reasons for the terrible run of form, none more than the fact they have already used 47 players this campaign compared to only 34 last season.

He added: "There are a number of reasons for why things haven't gone the way we wanted and one of them has been an horrendous injury list.

"We just haven't been able to put out the same side on a regular basis which can be seen through the fact we have already used 47 players this season.

"Defeat after defeat has also hit confidence hard but the players and the staff have had a get together to address a few things and hopefully starting on Saturday we may see a reversal in fortune."

This weekend's home tie (2pm kick off) against Kenilworth earlier will also give DK the opportunity to settle a score after putting in one of their worst performances of the season in the reverse fixture last month when they went down 36-3.

Stinton said: "We put in a dreadful performance at Kenilworth in the season so it will give us a chance to put that right.

"We need a victory soon to give us some hope but as they say it's not over until the fat lay sings."
