GORNAL Athletic will entertain Wisbech Town in the fourth round of the FA Vase.

The Dudley outfit welcome the Cambridgeshire side, who play in the Thurlow Nunn League Premier, on Saturday, January 19.

Athletic booked their place in the final 32 with a narrow 1-0 home win over Boston Town on Saturday.

Ian Rowe’s men put in a superb team performance to hold off Boston after scoring the only goal of the game after eight minutes.

The hosts could have been two goals ahead in the first five minutes, with chances falling to Ricky Nicholls, whose shot went just wide of the post, and Matt Weyman, who saw his effort struck the same post.

The goal came three minutes later; Chris Rabone’s high ball into the box was spilled by Boston keeper Doug Linberg and Weyman was on hand to pick up the loose ball and stroke it into the far corner of the net.

Boston began to edge their way back into the game, but could not find a passage through a well marshalled Gornal defence, and, in-form keeper Matt Martin.

The second half saw good open game, with both sides creating a number of chances, but failing to add to the scoreline.

Wisbech defeated Thackley 4-2 to progress in the Vase and set-up the clash in th Black Country. They are currently third in their league.
