Mole urges Causeway to "pull their socks up"

ANDY Mole says only Causeway United’s players can keep the club out of a relegation scrap.

New boss Mole endured a disappointing first game in charge as United went down 3-0 at home to Loughborough University last Saturday, a result which keeps them 18th in the Midland Alliance.

A dreadful first-half left the hosts three down at the break and Mole, who knows the players from his previous time at the club, feels too many of them have become complacent.

He said: “I think there was a sense that because I was back everything would be alright.

“But I don’t play the football.

“It doesn’t matter who is manager, it is all about doing it on the pitch.

“We had stern words at half-time and I got a response from half of the team.

“But there were still players who didn’t pick up and their mindset has to improve.

“I can see changes coming if they don’t pull their socks up.”

Weather permitting, Causeway welcome Tividale to the War Memorial this Saturday and Mole is keen to start winning sooner rather than later.

He said: “I don’t want to get involved in a relegation scrap at the end of the season.

“The players are good enough to get us away from danger and up the table.

“But at the minute we are not where we need to be as a team.”

It was a strange Saturday for Mole, who was also getting updates from Cradley Town’s 1-0 win at Shifnal Town in the West Midlands Premier.

Mole left the Hammers after only 32 days in charge to return to Causeway last week but still had input on their team selection as assistant Mark Jones took charge of the trip to Shropshire.

Jones has now joined Mole at Causeway, meaning Cradley are without a manager for this weekend’s home game with Pegasus Juniors.
