Hearsey: Decision to go was pure and simple

MATT Hearsey says the chance to play in the Welsh Premier League was too good to turn down.

The 21-year-old striker, the subject of much transfer speculation throughout the season, agreed a move to Newtown last week.

Hearsey feels it is the right move at the right time as he looks to further his ambitions of playing professionally.

He said: “If I want to make it as a professional this is the kind of move I have to make.

“It’s a step up in levels and a chance to test myself.

“I have to admit I didn’t know a lot about the Welsh league until I found out Newtown were interested but I’ve now watched a few games and it is a good standard.

“Right now I’m just raring to go.”

Hearsey’s debut against Camarthen Town was due to be shown live on Welsh language channel S4C last Saturday but the game was postponed.

The striker leaves Dudley Sports having bagged more than 40 goals in little more than a season-and-a-half.

He said: “I’ve really enjoyed my time at Sports.

“It is a really well run club and I have a great respect for the management.

”I’ll still keep in touch and watch their games.

“This move was all about bettering myself as a player. I’ve had plenty of offers from teams in our league but I wanted the chance to make a big step up.”
