TIVIDALE boss Stuart Scriven was pleased to see his side register their first win of the year after what has been a frustrating two months for the Midland Alliance promotion favourites.

Non-stop rain that has effected clubs the length and breadth of the country finally allowed Tivi to get in only their second league fixture since the turn of the year and they marked it with a comfortable 3-1 defeat of Heather St Johns.

Karl Edwards early goal backed up by a second for Nathan Waite and another midway through the second half from Andy Parsons were more than enough.

Scriven said: “Fitness wise there were no issues, we’ve kept training and had three friendlies so we were OK there and it didn’t really affect us.”

Now Scriven will see his side embark on a gruelling run-in as they look to overhaul leaders Quorn who have an eight point lead, with Tivi having no fewer than nine games in hand.

“This is where our big squad will come in and we will have to make changes, have fresh legs, on a game by game basis with a match every Tuesday between now and the end of the season, plus several on a Thursday.”

Tividale were due to face Alvechurch at home last night and will entertain struggling Continental Star on Saturday before welcoming Boldmere St Michaels to the Beeches on Tuesday. Scriven is expecting his side to stay focused no matter where the opposition sit in the league table.

“I’ll be looking for 110 per cent against Continental,” he said. “I know people will expect us to do better against the lower teams but we have raised our game against the better sides.

“We’ve got 21 games to play in the league, a couple of cup games and I’m confident every one in the squad can do the business when called upon. They are all equal.

“Obviously if we could average two points a game between now and the end of the season that would be enough but I’m greedy, as are my staff, and I want to win every game if possible.

“When Quorn come to us in a few weeks time that will obviously be massive, we’ve beaten them already and if we could beat them again it would be a big blow in terms of both points and psychologically hopefully.”
