Tivi late show has Burley eyeing fourth again

CAUSEWAY United are aiming for strong finish to Midlands Alliance season after ending their winless run against Tividale on Monday.

Mark Bellingham scored a late winner to earn a crucial three points with a 1-0 victory.

Fifth placed United now lie two points behind Tividale, with fourth place firmly in their sights going into the final league games.

Manager Carl Burley said he was delighted with the fighting spirit displayed by his players on Monday.

Burley said: “The result came as a relief to us after not winning for a few games and the determination from the players was what we have been missing recently.

“After being in the top six all season we had dropped down to seventh going into Monday’s match, we have maybe taken our foot off the gas.

“I am a great believer that the table doesn’t lie, dropping down a place showed that we have not been performing in recent matches and I told the lads to buck up their ideas.

“To be honest a draw would have been a fair result and both teams had settled for a point but I was happy to claim the three points late on”.

Causeway’s best Midland Alliance finish ever is sixth, so a fifth place finish to the season will something of an achievement.

United travel to Rocester this Saturday (3pm kick-off).

Burley added: “I would think we need four points to make fifth ours but I can’t see why we can’t get two wins and move up a place.

“We have a realistic chance of landing fourth but that is depending on Tividale’s results.”
