Gornal in "decisive" week

IAN Rowe believes Gornal Athletic’s West Midlands Premier title challenge has entered a decisive week.

After leaders Black Country Rangers complete their fixtures at home to Shawbury United tonight, the Peacocks will know exactly what is needed over their final four games to clinch the crown.

If results go their way, the men from the Garden Walk could take the title at Malvern Town next Tuesday.

But manager Rowe is focused entirely on the upcoming games which includes a tricky-looking derby with Cradley Town this Saturday.

He said: “We are getting near to the crunch now and I think this week could be decisive.

“We can’t win it Saturday night but this week will decide whether we make it easy or hard for ourselves.

“We have to be wary of other teams who will be eager to beat us. I’ve told the players we have to keep going.

“Each win brings the title a little closer but I’m not at the stage where I’m going to say it’s won, as I’ll look like the biggest plank walking if everything goes wrong.”

Rowe knows life will not be easy against a Cradley outfit who held Gornal to a 1-1 draw in the reverse fixture earlier this season.

He added: “If we can take four points from the games at Goodrich and against Cradley, it will stand us in good stead.”
