Runaway leaders Brandhall Colts were in seventh heaven this week after extending their 100 per cent tag in the Beacon Sunday league.
The Colts entertained fellow unbeaten AFC Bloxwich and emerged narrow 2-1 victors to extend their advantage at the top to ten points, although the chasing pack have matches in hand, writes Dave McLean.
In a tight Paycare Division encounter, Brandhall keeper Joe Canton was the hero of a goalless first period when he kept out a 35th minute Bloxwich penalty.
It was just gone the hour mark when the Colts broke the deadlock with a fine low drive from Brayden Birch.
With 15 minutes remaining, Jakob Burroughs gave Brandhall a crucial two goal cushion, before a 79th minute response from Ash Justin led to a tense final few minutes and the Colts held out to extend their fine run.
In the only other fixture to beat the wet weather, Wombourne Athletic came from behind to pick up maximum points with a 2-1 away success at AFC Goldthorne.
George Gough had given the hosts the lead, only for ten man Wombourne to bounce back in the second half through Harry Lamas and Morgan McConnell.
It was a first victory in five for Athletic, leaving Goldthorne still seeking their first points after six starts. This weekend Goldthorne visit fellow early season strugglers Hagley United.
Other Paycare Division fixtures for October 30 are: AFC Sporting Gornal v AFC Bloxwich, Sedgley & Gornal United East v Gunmakers Arms, Trysull Athletic v Bushbury Hill, Trysull FC v Brandhall Colts, Wombourne Athletic v Lane Head Titans.
