HALAS Hawks West under 10s girls ended the season on a high note as they claimed the Merit Shield with a 1-0 win over Kewford.

Both teams had chances in an entertaining game but the Halas back line held strong with excellent goalkeeping from Laura Cartwright who was aided by defenders Lottie Baines, Katie Hope and Lauren Smith.

Charlotte Davies scored the first and only goal of the match following some great team work from Eleanor Macfarlane and Elinor Atkinson.

There were contrasting fortunes for the U11s who suffered a 6-0 hammering from a strong Kewford Eagles side in their Merit Shield Final.

Halas were under pressure from the off and went behind as early as the third minute, before finding themselves 4-0 down at half-time. Despite rallying for the second half it was not enough and Kewford bagged two more for a 6-0 win.

There was better news for the U13s who secured a 1-0 win over Wordsley Wasps in their Merit Shield Final. A closely contested first half finished goalless with Wordsley probably shading the possession.

In the second half Halas took the game to their opponents and a breakaway saw Rhianne Murray calmly lob the ball over the advancing keeper from 20 yards out to seal the win. Player of the match was Bethany Ingram.
