Call offs driving Rowe "crazy"

Dudley News: Ian Rowe Ian Rowe

DUDLEY Town boss Ian Rowe admits continued postponements due to bad weather are “driving him crazy.”

Freezing temperatures saw the entire West Midlands Premier league programme wiped out on Saturday and this weekend’s fixtures are already in doubt as the weather shows no sign of improvement.

Rowe’s Robins last game was the 1-1 draw with Wednesfield on December 15 and the boss revealed the conditions were even making training impossible.

He said: “It’s driving us crazy at the moment and there is nothing we can do about it.

“A lot of the facilities we use have been closed, even the astroturf has been too dangerous to train on.

“We have had just one session over Christmas, we are hoping to train this week and at least get some fitness work done.

“One benefit of the break is that we have been able to get a few more players fit, so at least we will be back to full strength when we resume.”

Town sit seventh in the standings but have not won for four games, a sequence which has seen them slip ten points behind table toppers Bloxwich United.

Rowe has moved to strengthen the squad with the addition of Nicky Turton and Robert Blair from Cradley Town. Shaun Jasper has also come in from Dudley Sports with Craig Ball returning to the Dell after a spell at Black Country Rangers.

Rowe added: “As far as I’m concerned the league has gone, we have fallen too far away.

“But we are still in three cup competitions and I believe on our day we are as good as any team in the division.

“Had I been offered this position at the start of the season I probably would have taken it and it’s just the last few weeks that have been really disappointing.

“There is no reason we can’t have a strong second half to the season and finish in the top six again.”

Town travel, weather permitting, to basement boys Shawbury United on Saturday.

Tividale fave a trip to Bromyard Town, while Gornal Athletic entertain Wolverhampton Casuals.
