CRADLEY Heathens put in a dominant performance to comprehensively beat King's Lynn in the first leg of their National Shield clash.

The Heathens won all but one heat as they powered to a 69-23 victory over the Young Stars at Monmore Green tonight.

King's Lynn's only joy came when Lewis Rose claimed the very first leg for the visitors. Even that failed to give them a lead, however, with Cradley's Starke and Greaves filling the next two places.

From then on it was all Heathens as they claimed maximum points from the following four heats.

As the contest wore on, Cradley pulled further and further away. Their dominance was highlighted by the sublime form of star man Steve Worrell, who won every one of his five races.

Other notable performances came from Tom Perry, Max Clegg and Nathan Greaves, who put last week's engine troubles behind him to win two heats on the night.

Teams: Cradley Heath: Paul Starke (8+3), Nathan Greaves (9), Tom Perry (12+1), Max Clegg (9+3), Steve Worrall (15), Matt Williamson (9+1), Danny Phillips (7+3).

King's Lynn: Lewis Rose, Darren Mallett, James Cockle, Darryl Ritchings R/R, Kyle Hughes, Josh Bailey, Scott Campos.
