A YOUNG Stourbridge golfer is on par for success after qualifying for the Andalucia Junior Open Final in Spain.
Jake Walley, a Birmingham Metropolitan College Golf Academy student, made it to the contest by winning a regional final at Low Laithes Golf Club in Ossett, Wakefield.
As well as having a college-funded membership at Hagley Golf and Country Club, Jake, 17, also holds a membership at Halfpenny Green, where he is junior captain, and Enville Golf Club, where he represents the Scratch Team.
He said: “It’s great to be playing on the international stage and I hope to finish as high as possible in the event. I am playing really well at the moment and hope that all my hard work over the last few years will start to pay off.”
David Faulkner, golf academy lecturer at Birmingham Metropolitan College, added: “Jake joined the academy in September 2013 and has achieved other golfing successes including reaching the national finals of the British School and Colleges’ League. To qualify for the Junior Open Final in Spain, he shot 77 on the par 72 course in difficult conditions to win outright by one shot.”
Birmingham Metropolitan College is hosting its own competition open to all junior golfers on Tuesday, July 29 at Hagley Golf and Country Club. For more information about the competition, sports courses or the golf academy, follow @BMET_Golf or visit bmetc.ac.uk
