LYE Town continued their progress with a 3-2 victory against league leaders Basford United last Saturday.

The result saw them bounce back in brilliant style from last week's disappointing exits from both the FA Vase and Worcestershire Senior Urn.

Goals from Damian Whitcombe, Sam Mills and Richard Anslow handed them three points at Stourbridge Road to lift the newly-promoted outfit into seventh in the premier division of the Midland Football League.

Chairman Brian Blakemore said: "The performance, especially in the second half, is our best this season.

"Basford are a strong side and have started really well.

"We suffered at the start of the season with inconsistency due to chopping and changing the team because of injury and absence. Now we look really balanced and you can see how we have progressed.

"You can see how we are improving with each game."

Blakemore also praised Town's fans for the support they are showing.

"Last weekend we had the second highest attendance in the league," he added. "That itself shows how far we have already come this season and it is great to see."

Lye will travel to take on Heath Hayes this Saturday as they look to push themselves towards the head of the table.
