HALESOWEN Town manager John Hill says he is looking forward to Saturday's challenging FA Trophy test against Blyth Spartans.

Hill was not fazed by his side's exit from the Doodson Sport Cup at the hands of Newcastle on Tuesday night and instead said focus was now fully on the weekend's fixture.

"The Doodson Sports Cup is one of the those that you have to enter. It was a disappointing result but I made eight changes to the team so that can happen," he said.

"I can't wait until the weekend now. It is going to be a tough test against Blyth, they had a great result in the FA Cup and a good draw to look forward to as well, so they will be on a high.

"It would be great if we could progress in the FA Trophy and will be working hard to make that happen. We are going to be travelling up the day before to make sure we can prepare properly."

Against Newcastle, the Yeltz crashed out after conceding three first half goals.

Halesowen's changes included youth prospects Oli Long and John Hill starting.

Newcastle were gifted the lead on eight minutes as a calamitous mistake from Curtis Tilt and Sam Pearson allowed youngster Josh Gordon to slot the ball into an empty net from a couple of yards out.

Halesowen tried to regain control of the game, but this came to an abrupt end by the end of the first half, as two quick goals in the final three minutes put the game out of reach.

The hosts doubled their lead on 43 minutes as Josh Gordon latched onto a thought ball and lifted the ball over Pearson.

Newcastle struck again on 45 minutes as Tom Urwin hit a shot from an awkward angle that found its way into the net.

Halesowen's best chances came in the second half, as Joel Kettle's header flew just over the bar, and Neil Mackenzie blasted the bar over as well.

Last Saturday saw the Yeltz continue their fine home form with a 2-0 league victory against high-flying Ramsbottom.

Goals from Iyseden Christie and Elliot Turner secured the points.

Meanwhile, defender Asa Charlton has left The Grove to join Chasetown.

Charlton, who was part of the promotion winning side last season, made 113 appearances for the club, scoring 6 goals.
