IAN Long fears Tividale's season could be seriously disrupted by another fixture pileup.

Tivi's league game against Brigg Town on Saturday had to be postponed due to a waterlogged pitch at The Beeches.

It was the second home league game in succession and the third home game this season to fall victim to the weather.

Long is now fearing a repeat of last season's promotion campaign where they had to claim title glory despite a massive fixture pileup.

He said: "It is a very big concern for me. We could be faced with having to play three and four games a week again.

"Last year we were able to cope because we were a lot stronger than some of the teams we came up against. That won't be the case this year. We are in a harder league and we won't get away with fielding weakened sides.

"We also need to be careful because the pitch needs to be of a certain standard for us to stay in this league. Something needs to be resolved."

Tivi were set to face Stafford Rangers at home in the Doodson Sports Cup last night before travelling to take on Rainworth Miners' Welfare this Saturday.

Meanwhile, they continued the defence of the JW Hunt Cup with a 3-1 home victory over Wednesfield last Thursday.

An own goal by James Lewis set Tividale on their way after 36 minutes before Mitchell Plows made it two from the penalty spot just after the break.

After Sam Williams had put the game beyond Wednesfield, the visitors grabbed a late consolation via former Tividale man Keiron Miller.
